On any given trip, I might be faced with a low-angle valley followed by a moderately steep forest slope followed by a steep alpine slope, and the snow could range from patchy corn to tracked hardpan to deep powder to breakable crust to bottomless mush to wind-scoured ice. The vast majority of my snowshoeing trips have been in the Washington Cascades, where snow and terrain conditions often put snowshoes to a severe test. Furthermore, some of my mountain partners don’t ski, so snowshoeing is my only opportunity for a wintertime meet-up with them. For example, forest slopes with tightly spaced trees narrow and convoluted ridge crests very steep alpine slopes and pretty much anyplace with breakable crust. There are many mountain conditions that are simply better suited to snowshoes than skis. The ultimate application of a mountain snowshoe would be reaching the summit of a peak.Īlthough I spend most of my winter outings on skis, I regard snowshoes to be a valuable tool in my backcountry arsenal. However, investors reacted nervously to revised Q4 revenue guidance of $557-$563m, which would represent a deceleration in DocuSign’s rate of growth. This was overwhelmingly driven by subscription revenues of $528.6m, a 44% year-on-year increase.Įarnings also exceeded analyst expectations, with DocuSign reporting earnings per share (EPS) of $0.58, beating DOCU earnings estimates of $0.46 per share. Revenue hit $545.5m, representing 42% growth year over year. Recent resultsĪlthough December’s Q3 results release precipitated a significant share price drop, the news was broadly positive. The DocuSign share price recovered from its springtime lull, growing from around $188 on to $307 by July 2021 – an increase of over 63%. Yet these fears appeared premature, as June’s results release reported “new and existing customers adopting and expanding at record rates”, and 58% year-on-year revenue growth. This brought fresh uncertainty for DocuSign investors, and in March 2021, the share price faltered after earnings report guidance moderated expectations for future growth. The start of 2021 saw vaccines rolled out and hopes for the end of the pandemic rise. The DocuSign share price continued to grow throughout 2020, and it ended the year trading at around $240. While they've had their disagreements in the past, Johnny has a great working relationship with the infamous Son of Satan, teaming up with him more times than any other Marvel hero to great effect. During that time, Johnny only had his veteran combat prowess and hellfire shotgun to see him through the worst situations. Badass Normal: Became one for awhile after ditching Zarathos. It's heavily implied that the more he spends time in Hell, the more evil he grows, thanks to the throne's demonic influence over him. Taken to a new level in the 2019 series, which sees Johnny adopting an unforgiving, cruel attitude as the King of Hell. These traits would persevere in most of his modern-day portrayals, to the point where it's sometimes hard to distinguish who is currently on the driver's seat, him or Zarathos. When he returned as a depowered, shotgun-wielding Badass Normal in the 90s, Johnny was re-imagined as a jaded, more cynical demon hunter, utilizing harsher methods to dispose of his enemies, sometimes with sadistic glee. He actually started off as a Classical Anti-Hero back in the 70s, with Zarathos being solely responsible for the Ghost Rider's crueler acts. Anti-Hero: Of the Unscrupulous Hero and Pay Evil unto Evil variety. He is simply that good, honed through years and years of training. Although other Ghost Riders have shown the ability to perform amazing stunts on their vehicles, only Johnny can rightfully claim to be skilled enough to do such feats without the need to transform into his fiery alter-ego, let alone resort to any supernatural handicaps. The Ace: He's called the "World's Greatest Motorcyclist" for a good reason. He was purged of this corruption courtesy of Danny and Caretaker. He later became King of Hell, but abdicated after he realized that the position was corrupting him (specifically the Damnation Stare, the more powerful version of the Penance Stare that the King of Hell gets). With the power to control hellfire and to inflict pain on those he deems evil with his Penance Stare, Johnny seeks vengeance as Ghost Rider. Johnny Blaze, a motorcycle stuntman, became bound to the Spirit of Vengeance known as Zarathos after making a deal with Mephisto to spare the life of his surrogate father. The only rule was that they had to be intrinsic parts of the film - closing credit numbers (like Arcade Fire‘s stomping “Abraham’s Daughter” at the end of “ The Hunger Games“) or cuts-used-in-passing (like the cunning-but-brief use of The Walkmen‘s “Angela Surf City” in “ Seven Psychopaths“) didn’t count. So, to kick-off our year-end coverage, we’ve picked out some of our favorite movie music moments of the year. After all, it’s hard to think of major movies in which music doesn’t play a key part, from a piece of score elevating a key sequence to a pop song that becomes inextricably linked with a film until the end of time.Īnd 2012 has been no exception, with a host of movies that have used songs and music to hugely impressive effect, from grand-scale musicals to contained dance sequences to memorable montages to movie-stealing karaoke numbers. And while our remit has grown over time, it’s still something we take a particular interest in. When it first began, many, many years ago, The Playlist covered film in general, but with a particular focus on the places where movies intersected with music - scores, soundtracks, music videos et al. We thought about hiking all the way around the lake, but TBH, we weren't up to an additional 2 hours or so. My wife and I are mid 50's, and are relatively fit. We took the ferry back around 12:30, and for the second straight day were happy to see black bear(s) hanging out at the East dock! It's a relatively easy to moderate flat hike, but there are a few areas of elevation gain requiring you to walk up steps. We took a leisurely pace and completed the hike in about 1.5 hours, with a short excursion to the Moose Pond area (not recommended). We did the shorter 2.4 mile hike around the southern end of the lake. We arrived around 10:30 on a Monday morning and were surprised to find a few open parking spots in the lot. Once for the shuttle over to hike to Inspiration Point and Hidden Falls, and the second time to hike this trail. Jenny Lake was our favorite stop on our recent trip to GTNP. There are less people on that part of the lake but also less to see, so all it did was tire our group out for the day. Total trip after hitting those points of interest is about 9-10 miles and the last 7 miles are nothing special. Our party elected to go all the way around the lake, which was a mistake. You can take the boat back but it's expensive and it's about as quick to just hike the 2 miles back. From there it's worth going up to Inspiration Point as the climb is fun and views are excellent.Īfter those 2 points of interest, I'd recommend going back the way you came and go visit other areas of the Tetons. Hidden Falls is the real gem here as it's an amazing experience. We took the trail clockwise towards Hidden Falls, which is an easy 2 mile hike and fairly pretty. We got here at 8am and it was already packed in the parking areas. It's a pretty lake, but it's not any prettier than any other lake in the area and the overall activity with hordes of people make it a bit more interesting. Jenny Lake gets a lot of hype and I don't think it lives up to it, honestly. They are much cleaner than the ones near the parking lot. There were some really healthy snacks like fresh fruits and veggies. I recommend the store in the Jenny Lake area. We maintained a safe distance, but it's still scary because you don't know if the bear will make any sudden movement. We hiked a little further towards the canyon area only to check out the black bear that was feeding. It's totally worth it and we made our kids continue up to the scenic overlook of the lake and beyond. The additional hike to Inspiration Point may be challenging to some because it's mostly uphill, but the path is wide enough in most places. It's actually a little further and higher up. It's not the first small waterfall you see immediately on the trail. It's a fairly easy to moderate climb to hidden falls. Later on in the morning, it got much warmer around low 80s, and we were in our short sleeve shirts. People were very friendly on the trail often saying hello and offering to take our family photo. Most kept their distance and wore masks as they approached one another. When we started early in the morning around 9:15 am there weren't too many people, but around 10 am and near some scenic stops on the trail there were more people and crowds of about 6 to 10 people. Everyone wore a mask on the ferry and at the two docks. Cost was $50 roundtrip for a family of four, and it was worth every penny to not hear our teens whine about the extra 2 miles of hiking. We took the ferry and it was worth it to have a peaceful and scenic ride on the lake. You need to arrive early (by 9am) or you will have to hike to the beginning of your actual hike. Best to get there by 9 or so or wait until 2:30 or so.This is such a scenic trail and well worth the effort. Parking at Jenny Lake fills up early with and leads to people parking on the road before the turn in to the visitor center which makes for a bit of a walk back to the visitor center, etc. We had a nice chat with him for a few minutes and were on our way. He was helpful with giving instructions about the trail. There was a volunteer hanging out on the plaza in that area. When we were there last Saturday, we didn't even go in to the visitor center. Like I said, just follow the crowds of people. Whether you take the ferry over from the visitor center and access the hikes that way or whether you hike from the visitor center, it should be clear to you when you are there. The other is across the lake where you access the trail to Hidden Falls, Inspiration Point and Cascade Canyon from that boat dock Really, it isn't that complicated. One is near the visitor center and parking lot. |
